Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.
